Meet Sen. Eric Giddens

Eric Giddens is serving his first full term in the Iowa State Senate. He serves: Cedar Falls, Hudson, Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Gilbertville, Washburn, La Porte City, Traer, Dysart, Mount Auburn, and parts of Waterloo.

In Cedar Falls, Eric was previously a math teacher at Peet Junior High School, a former member of the Cedar Falls Board of Education, and has worked at the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education where he led a program to help Iowa communities increase the adoption of sustainability practices.

 

In the Cedar Valley, Eric serves on the Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa Board of Directors, the Dry Run Creek Advisory Board, the Resilient Iowa Communities Advisory Committee, and is active in the Cedar Valley Economic Inclusion Network.

 

In the Senate, Eric is an Assistant Democratic Leader, and is the ranking Democrat on the Commerce Committee and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. He also sits on the Education, Agriculture, Transportation, State Government, and Appropriations Committees. Previously, he also sat on the Ways and Means Committee, and was Ranking Member of the Veterans Affairs Committee.

Eric holds degrees in Civil Engineering and Political Science, and has a secondary mathematics teaching certification. He is the proud father of Henry, a UNI student majoring in music and specializing in double bass.
